Job Summary
The Data Center Facilities Operations Coordinator supports the day-to-day operation, maintenance, and reliability of data center infrastructure. This role coordinates preventive and corrective maintenance activities, monitors facilities systems, manages vendor interactions, and ensures compliance with safety, security, and operational standards. The coordinator acts as a central point of communication between facilities, IT operations, vendors, and management to ensure continuous uptime and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Facilities Operations & Monitoring
- Coordinate daily operations of critical data center infrastructure, including:
- Electrical systems (UPS, generators, switchgear, PDUs)
- Mechanical systems (CRAC/CRAH units, chillers, cooling towers)
- Fire detection and suppression systems
- Monitor building management systems (BMS/DCIM) and respond to alarms and incidents
- Assist with incident response, root cause analysis, and corrective action tracking
Maintenance & Work Coordination
- Schedule and track preventive maintenance (PM) and corrective maintenance (CM) activities
- Coordinate maintenance windows and change management activities with internal teams
- Review work permits, method of procedures (MOPs), and standard operating procedures (SOPs)
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, logs, and documentation
Vendor & Contractor Management
- Coordinate on-site activities for vendors and contractors
- Ensure vendors comply with safety, security, and operational requirements
- Track vendor performance, service reports, and completion of work orders
Safety, Compliance & Risk Management
- Enforce data center safety protocols, including LOTO and PPE requirements
- Support compliance with internal policies and industry standards (e.g., ISO, SOC, Uptime Institute)
- Participate in audits, inspections, and risk assessments
- Assist with emergency preparedness and business continuity planning
Reporting & Documentation
- Maintain operational dashboards, reports, and KPIs
- Track incidents, maintenance activities, and asset records
- Assist in capacity planning and lifecycle management of facilities assets
Communication & Coordination
- Act as a liaison between facilities, IT operations, security, and management
- Provide clear communication during incidents, maintenance events, and escalations
- Participate in shift handovers and operational meetings
Required Qualifications
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Facilities Management, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
- 2–5 years of experience in data center facilities, critical environments, or industrial operations
- Working knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems in mission-critical environments
- Experience coordinating maintenance activities and vendors
- Familiarity with CMMS, BMS, or DCIM tools
- Strong organizational, communication, and documentation skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in Tier II–IV data center environments
- Relevant certifications (any of the following are a plus):
- Data Center Certified Associate (DCCA)
- Certified Data Center Professional (CDCP)
- Facilities or engineering certifications
- Knowledge of change management and ITIL concepts
- Experience supporting 24/7 operations or shift-based environments
Physical & Work Requirements
- Ability to work on-site in a data center environment
- Ability to lift up to [X] lbs and work around active electrical and mechanical systems
- May require participation in an on-call rotation or shift work
